چکیده

The interior o f chlorosomes, the main antenna system o f the photosynthesizing bacterium Chloroßexus aurantiacus, is shown to contain no proteins in a fixed ratio to BChl c and in amounts that could be significant o f direct chromophore-protein complexes. This excludes non-covalent chromophore-protein complexing that has so far been found in all other antennae as the main organizational principle o f the interior architecture for chlorosomes o f chlorophyll C. aurantiacus. Rather, these antennae constitute the first case o f a chromophorechromophore aggregate functioning as a photosynthetic light harvesting system.

Robustness, efficiency, and optimality in the Fenna-Matthews-Olson photosynthetic pigment-protein complex.

Pigment-protein complexes (PPCs) play a central role in facilitating excitation energy transfer (EET) from light-harvesting antenna complexes to reaction centres in photosynthetic systems; understanding molecular organisation in these biological networks is key to developing better artificial light-harvesting systems. In this article, we combine quantum-mechanical simulations and a network-base...

Fluorescence-ODMR of Light Harvesting Pigments of Photosynthetic Bacteria

The triplet state of photosynthetic pigments has been widely used in the past as an internal nonde structive probe for the geometric and electronic structure of the pigment-protein complexes of photo synthetic bacteria. Especially the reaction center complex (RC) has been intensively studied by means of ESR in high field and zero field [1—7]. Less is known about antenna complexes. So far only...

Apo-bacteriophytochromes modulate bacterial photosynthesis in response to low light.

Bacteriophytochromes (BphPs) are light-sensing regulatory proteins encoded by photosynthetic and nonphotosynthetic bacteria. This protein class has been characterized structurally, but its biological activities remain relatively unexplored. Two BphPs in the anoxygenic photosynthetic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris, designated regulatory proteins RpBphP2 and RpBphP3, are configured as light...

Photosystem II

Photosystem II is a specialized protein complex that uses light energy to oxidize water, resulting in the release of molecular oxygen into the atmosphere, and to reduce plastoquinone, which is released into the hydrophobic core of the photosynthetic membrane. All oxygenic photosynthetic organisms, which include plants, algae and some bacteria, depend on photosystem II to extract electrons from ...

Photosynthetic reaction centers.

The capture of solar radiation and the conversion of its free energy into chemical energy involves a sequence of reactions that occur within a physical structure called the photosynthetic RC. Following the initial capture of a photon by antenna pigments, the photon is transferred to the RC pigments, where it gives rise to a separation and stabilization of charge across the photosynthetic membra...
